Nymphenburg Memento Mori Skull Cumberland

$8,270.00

Nymphenberg’s Cumberland pattern bears the world’s most complex flower design. This festive composition of flower bouquets, single flowers, butterflies and insects framed by fine golden edging was designed in 1765 by Joseph Zächenberger and was the first Bavarian electoral court service. This historic pattern is now reimagined to adorn a glazed skull. Porcelain with white glaze, hand painted Cumberland design. The skull, used in classicist art of Europe as a symbol of the delicacy and transience of life, has long been a signature form in the Nymphenburg repertoire. Its construction in Nymphenburg’s master workshops requires multiple separate casts and the utmost care. The Nymphenburg skulls stand out not only as artifacts of great presence and significance, but also as exquisite products of the highest craftsmanship.

This unique painted skull is presented in a wooden box.
