The Saint-Louis Manhattan Coupe Cocktail Glass is a wide-bowled coupe for shaken and stirred cocktails served without ice. As ECG cofounder Pierre-Charles Cros described it, the open coupe form increases the nose of the drink and makes it sophisticated and elegant. The wide bowl works equally well for champagne service. The collection’s signature bevel cuts form an architectural decoration on the body, evoking the Manhattan skyline’s grid and the Art Deco confidence of the cocktail’s golden era.
Every piece in the Manhattan collection is mouth-blown and hand-cut at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine, France. The bevel cuts that form the collection’s architectural decoration are applied by hand in the cold atelier. The specific proportions of the glass forms were developed in close technical collaboration with the Experimental Cocktail Group, whose founders weighed in on each shape’s capacity to reveal the ingredients and aromatics of cocktail design. The Manhattan Shaker combines a lower crystal body — allowing the mixture to be seen as it is prepared — with an upper section in silvered metal from Saint-Louis’s sister house Puiforcat.
The Manhattan collection was developed in 2018 in collaboration with the founders of the Experimental Cocktail Group, the Paris-based collective credited with transforming the city’s cocktail scene through elevated drinks in chic speakeasy settings. The collection takes its name from both the classic cocktail and the cosmopolitan New York skyline — vertical, vibrant, and shaped by the speakeasy culture of the Prohibition era, when underground bars born of the desire to keep the party going first defined the art of the cocktail. Saint-Louis’s design vocabulary for the collection is resolutely modern: bevel cuts forming an architectural decoration that evokes the city’s grid and Art Deco confidence. Manhattan is Saint-Louis’s first dedicated cocktail line, a transatlantic voyage between American inspiration and French conviviality, conceived to bring the spirit of mixology home. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
