The Saint-Louis Oxymore Clear Bud Vase brings the Oxymore collection’s geometric staircase-step architecture and clean graphic lines to a small bud vase for a single stem or compact arrangement. The Oxymore’s geometric cuts animate the body of the vase and give it a presence beyond its modest scale. The urban, metropolitan character of the collection reads as contemporary while carrying the full weight of Saint-Louis’s hand-craft tradition.
Every piece in the Oxymore collection is produced by the master glassblowers and glasscutters of the hot and cold workshops at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine, working in concert. The geometric staircase-step architecture of Oxymore — clean, angular, and precisely proportioned — demands that both the blowing and cutting processes be executed with absolute regularity, as any deviation from the intended angles is immediately visible in the assembled form. Oxymore reflects the total harmony of the two workshops: a design that could only be conceived and realized from within the manufactory itself.
The Oxymore collection was designed by the Saint-Louis manufactory’s own hot and cold workshop teams and launched in 2012. Its name is French for “oxymoron” — a figure of apparent contradiction — and the collection is built on exactly that tension: classical cristallerie craftsmanship and a design vocabulary that is entirely contemporary, metropolitan, and inflected by the Art Deco geometric confidence of the early 20th century. The staircase-step proportions and clean graphic lines make it compatible with a wide range of decorating styles, from the most traditional to the most minimalist, and its cross-category range — tableware, barware, candlesticks, vases, shaker, and cigar ashtrays — has made it a contemporary classic since its launch. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
