The Saint-Louis Tommy Large Old Fashioned brings Tommy’s star-shaped base and diamond, bevel, pearl, and rim cuts to the larger of the two Tommy old fashioned sizes, for generous spirits pours, cocktails on the rocks, and whisky with water. The star base catches light from below while the cut program on the parison animates every angle above it.
Every Tommy piece is mouth-blown and hand-cut at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine. The star-shaped base is cut by hand, as are the diamond, bevel, pearl, and rim cuts that cover the parison — a sequence of interventions that passes the piece through multiple specialist cutters before it is complete. The colored pieces achieve their hues through Saint-Louis’s masse coloring technique, in which metallic oxides are introduced during the melt to produce saturated, consistent tones throughout the crystal body.
Tommy has been part of the Saint-Louis collection since 1928, making it one of the maison’s most enduring designs. It came to wider fame in 1938, when it was chosen for a luncheon at the Palace of Versailles attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom — an occasion that sealed its place in the history of French hospitality. From its star-shaped base to its parison adorned with diamond, bevel, pearl, and rim cuts, Tommy reflects the full dexterity of Saint-Louis’s master glassworkers. Its straight, confident lines have graced the most refined interiors, including the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Today it is Saint-Louis’s bestselling design worldwide, spanning tableware, barware, tea service, decorative objects, and lighting across a complete family of clear and colored crystal. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
