Updating your Fall-Winter Décor with Mary Jeanne Kneen

Happy Autumn! As the summer fades and the chill sets in, we begin our annual fall/winter décor refresh. Whether you’re in the warmer climes of the world, or somewhere blessed by crunchy leaves followed by snowy drifts, we all move toward setting the scene for more time spent at home, and with our loved ones—friends, family, and honored guests.

Approaching the end of September, I had the chance to sit and talk with Mary Jeanne about her inspiration for the season, and her Fall/Winter 2024 curation for Kneen & Co.

What inspired your Fall/Winter 2024 curation? Can you share any specific trends or themes that influenced you?

I was partly inspired by the dress I wore to the Navy Seal gala in Chicago. I also looked to fashion trends from Chanel’s Pre-Fall collection. The combination of dark neutrals with pops of color was my guiding light this season.

Are there any other colors or textures that you’ve focused on? How do they reflect the mood you wanted to create?

For this edit, I was drawn to dark pinks, purples, and rich burgundies, contrasted with blacks, silvers, and grays. These colors evoke a sense of cozy sophistication while adding a vibrant pop to the more neutral elements of fall. I chose textures that feel rich and inviting—think soft cotton velvet, luxurious cashmere, and sumptuous leather and suede accessories.

Among the items you’ve curated, is there one piece that you’re particularly excited about? What makes it stand out to you?

I’m particularly excited about the Corolla Vase from Gilberto. Its beautiful design and the way it plays with light make it a standout piece. The gray crystal pieces from Lobmeyr and the elegant gray accents from Michaël Verheyden are captivating to me. That and the cashmere blankets from Masserano are perfect for snuggling. Each piece brings a unique charm that I can’t wait to incorporate into my home this year.

How do you envision the perfect setting for the dinnerware collection? Do you have any tips for creating a stunning table arrangement?

I picture a table dressed in rich colors, with dark pink florals arranged in crystal vessels. Pairing these with silver accents and richly colored linens creates an inviting atmosphere. Mixing textures and heights is key to an engaging table that feels warm and welcoming.

For your home décor pieces, what are your favorite ways to incorporate them into your own home? Can you share any personal styling tips or tricks?

I love creating vignettes that tell a story. Start with a striking vase filled with seasonal flowers, and layer in complementary accessories to add depth. Remember to balance bold elements with subtle ones to create harmony in your space.

Using a pop of color for water glasses can elevate any setting.

Is there a specific way you like to use or display your glassware? Any particular occasions or settings where you find them to be especially effective?

I enjoy mixing patterns and styles with my glassware. Using a pop of color for water glasses can elevate any setting. Whether it’s a casual gathering or a more formal dinner, the right glassware adds an element of elegance that enhances the experience.

How do you balance elegance with functionality in your curations? Do you have any favorite pieces that achieve this balance perfectly?

I believe that elegance and functionality can coexist beautifully. The Artel Glacier Double Old Fashioned glasses exemplify this—they’re perfect for everyday use while also being stunning enough for special occasions. Choosing pieces that serve a purpose without sacrificing style is essential.

If you had to choose between a cozy night by the fire or an elegant fall dinner party, which one would you pick and why?

Right now, I’m all about a cozy night by the fire. There’s something so comforting about wrapping up in a warm blanket and unwinding after a busy day—it feels like the perfect way to embrace the season.

Pumpkin spice or apple cinnamon—if you had to choose one to incorporate into your décor, which would it be?

I’d definitely choose apple cinnamon. The rich red tones resonate beautifully with fall and bring a warm, inviting feel to any space.

What’s your favorite autumn activity? Do you prefer a scenic hike or a day spent browsing through local markets for unique finds?

I find the most inspiration from nature, so I’d opt for a scenic hike. The changing leaves and crisp air make me happy, and being outdoors fuels my creativity.

If you could only keep one item from your curation, what would it be and how would you use it in your home?

It’s hard to choose, but I’m particularly obsessed with the Artel Glacier Double Old Fashioned glasses and the Gilberto Venezia Corolla Vase. I envision filling that vase with a beautiful arrangement of pink, purple, and white flowers. The Ginori Granduca Mug is also a favorite—it’s the perfect pick-me-up for coffee or tea, effortlessly uplifting my day.
