The Ginori 1735 Fortunae Porcelain Jar with Goose Lid is the collection’s most narrative piece, an object that tells a story before it is ever opened. Its form recalls the apothecary jars of historic Italian pharmacies, here glazed in celadon and banded in red and mocha.
On the lid sits a sculpted goose with a gilded beak, the namesake of the Game of the Goose, the Renaissance board game at the heart of Fortunae. A four-leaf clover, tied in chain and fastened with a golden padlock, is framed on the front.
Made in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy, where Ginori has produced porcelain since 1735, the jar holds breadsticks at aperitivo, biscotti in the kitchen, or simply its place on a shelf. A distinctive gift with no obvious equivalent.
