The MEISSEN New Cutout Ming Dragon Dessert Plate Black, 8.7 in is sized for salad, dessert, or a composed first course. The petal-shaped New Cutout rim was modeled by Johann Joachim Kaendler, the 18th-century master modeler of MEISSEN. A hand-painted black dragon chases a flaming pearl across the white center, surrounded by orange flame motifs and blossom medallions, with a fine gold rim.
Sized between the dessert plate and the dinner plate, it is the most versatile plate in the service. MEISSEN, founded in 1710, was the first manufactory in Europe to produce the hard-paste porcelain that had until then come only from China and Japan. Its Ming Dragon decor continues that long exchange with the East.
