The Saint-Louis Amadeus Flannel Grey Hock introduces a more restrained and nuanced color to the Amadeus hock range. Unlike the saturated gemstone tones of the other hock colors, flannel grey has a smoky, shifting quality: the tone deepens and softens with the thickness of the glass wall, producing a subtle gradation across the bowl’s surface. The colored bowl is set on a clear crystal stem, and the effect is one of quiet sophistication that reads well in modern interiors as much as more traditional settings.
Flannel grey was introduced by Saint-Louis in 2004 and is produced through the maison’s masse coloring expertise, bringing the same technical control to a more muted palette. Each Amadeus Flannel Grey Hock is mouth-blown and hand-cut at the Cristallerie in Lorraine, with the bowl formed and colored separately from the clear stem and then joined by hand. Seven artisans contribute to each glass over three days, and the nuanced quality of the flannel tone makes this piece among the most technically demanding of the hock variants.
Flannel grey represents a quieter movement within the Amadeus collection’s broader palette. Saint-Louis introduced it as its most recent signature color at the time of its launch, and it has since become closely associated with the Amadeus range. The Cristallerie has held the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781 and operates from its historic manufactory in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche, Lorraine.
