The Saint-Louis Amadeus Purple Hock presents the Amadeus silhouette in a rich, saturated purple, deeper and more opaque in character than the amethyst tone. The richly colored bowl is set on a clear crystal stem, allowing the color to read with full luminosity against candlelight or natural daylight. At the table it works equally well as a wine or water glass. It reads with a particular intensity especially against white linen or candlelight. Its distinctive color makes it a natural focal point whether used as a single-color set or combined with other Amadeus hock colors for a more expressive arrangement.
The colored bowls are achieved through Saint-Louis’s mastery of masse coloring, in which metallic oxides are introduced into the crystal melt to produce hues of exceptional depth and consistency. Each hock glass is mouth-blown and hand-cut, with the bowl formed and colored separately before being joined to the clear stem by hand. Seven artisans contribute their work to each glass across a three-day production process.
The Amadeus collection is named for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the colored hocks are understood within the collection as its melody: vivid, varied, and essential to the whole. Saint-Louis has long distinguished itself as a master of crystal color, and the Amadeus hock range represents the full breadth of that palette. Each piece is produced at the Cristallerie’s manufactory in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche, Lorraine, on a site with an unbroken history of glassmaking since 1586.
