The Saint-Louis Folia Wine Glass No. 3 brings the Folia collection’s leaf-shaped bevel cuts to a wine glass proportioned for red and full-bodied whites. The cuts fan out from the base of the stem and blossom across the bowl, giving the glass an organic surface quality that is particular to the Folia collection. Every crystal piece in the Folia collection is mouth-blown and hand-cut at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine, France. The leaf-shaped bevel cuts — hand-cut and cold-worked onto the crystal — fan out from the base of each piece and blossom across the form, with the cut adapted to the constraints of each shape by the maison’s master glassmakers. The ash wood elements — hurricane bases, side table tops, and tray elements — are selected and finished by hand, and the pairing of wood and crystal in the same object is a first in the Saint-Louis collection.

The Folia collection was designed by French interior architect and product designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and launched in 2017 as Saint-Louis’s first fully cross-disciplinary collection, spanning tableware, barware, candlesticks, vases, hurricanes, side tables, and lighting. The collection echoes the Moselle forest that surrounds the Saint-Louis manufactory — it was there that Duchaufour-Lawrance found his inspiration and decided to combine the radiance of crystal with the strength of ash wood. The leaf-shaped bevel cut that defines every crystal piece was drawn from a leaf that can tessellate to infinity, or fly onto the crystal as though a wind of folly were blowing. The choice of ash wood was inspired by the storage shelves in untreated timber seen throughout the workshop: the contrast, like a burst of warmth, highlights the radiance of the crystal. Folia is a tribute to the leaves of the Moselle forest and an ode to creative folly. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
