The Saint-Louis Twist 1586 Young Spirits Glass is designed for spirits under ten years of age — young whiskies, fresh eau-de-vie, unaged rum, and similar spirits where brightness and primary character are the point. Its form concentrates the more volatile aromatics of younger spirits. Ten wide Venetian ribs accelerate the flow and ensure an intense, direct arrival on the palate. The very tall stem keeps the hand away from the bowl during tasting, and the Venetian ribs enhance the color and clarity of the liquid within.

Every Twist 1586 piece is mouth-blown and hand-cut at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine. The Venetian ribs that define each glass — varied in number and orientation across the different models — are formed during the blowing process and refine the color and clarity of the liquid within. The very tall stems are a deliberate design choice: they keep the hand away from the bowl, preventing warmth from transferring to temperature-sensitive wines and spirits.

Twist 1586 was launched as Saint-Louis’s proposal for a new kind of tasting service: one guided by intuition rather than knowledge. Working with wine expert Michel Bettane and master distiller Nicolas Julhès, the maison created a collection that categorizes wines and spirits by age rather than grape variety, terroir, or appellation. The result strips away the intimidating etiquette of traditional tasting and replaces it with a single, generous question: is this young, or is it mature? The collection takes its name from the year of the Cristallerie’s founding — 1586 — and from the Venetian rib technique that defines each piece, ribs that illuminate the color of the liquid within through the exceptional way crystal refracts light. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
