The Bernardaud Augusta Dinner Plate sets the tone for an evening at the table, from a candlelit dinner for two to the holiday meal. Its broad rim is laid with a fine grid of gold, framed by bands of soft green and emerald tiles, and opens onto a wide white center that lets each course take the stage.
Augusta looks to the Art Deco period, when design traded the flowing curves of Art Nouveau for classical order. Its mosaic reduces ornament to geometry, the way designers of the period drew on Cubism and the art of ancient Greece and Rome. The name pays its own tribute to antiquity: Augustoritum, as Limoges was known under the Roman Empire.
Bernardaud has made porcelain in Limoges since 1863 and remains family-owned, with the hand present at every stage of each piece. On the table, the dinner plate is the quiet center of the Augusta setting, giving the bolder salad and bread and butter plates room to stand out when layered.
Each piece sold separately.
