Bernardaud Augusta Dinnerware brings the geometry of Art Deco to the table in a mosaic of gold, soft green and emerald green, laid out as an all-over carpet on some pieces and as a frieze on others. Each shape carries the pattern in its own way: a fine gold grid on the dinner plate, a radiating fan on the salad plate, a field of interlocking tiles on the service plate. Layered together, a place setting reads as a single composition rather than a matched set.
The collection looks to the Art Deco period, when design returned to classical order after the flowing curves of Art Nouveau, and motifs were simplified into figures shaped by Cubism and the art of ancient Greece and Rome. Its name pays tribute to Augustoritum, as Limoges was known under the Roman Empire.
Bernardaud has made porcelain in Limoges since 1863 and remains family-owned, with the hand present at every stage of each piece.
The collection includes dinner, salad, bread and butter and service plates, cereal, rice and noodle bowls, two oval platters, an open vegetable dish, a salad bowl, a gravy boat and a soup tureen, along with a tea and coffee service, a Nomad mug, a valet tray and two scented candles.
Each piece sold separately.
