The Bernardaud Augusta Salad Bowl brings salad or fruit to the center of the table, then holds its own on a sideboard or console between meals. The full Augusta pattern wraps its tapered exterior, with a frieze of green tiles at the rim above interlocking geometric motifs in emerald and gold.
The design draws on a period that favored classical rigor, when motifs were simplified into figures shaped by Cubism and the art of ancient Greece and Rome. On the salad bowl, frieze and carpet meet on a single piece, the collection’s two forms of mosaic shown together.
Bernardaud has made porcelain in Limoges since 1863 and remains a family-owned house. The name Augusta recalls Augustoritum, the Roman name for the city.
