The Ginori 1735 Volière Coucou Didrie Round Platter is a round serving platter with the Coucou Didrie at its center. Fill it with cheeses, pastries, or a composed first course, and between meals let it rest on a sideboard or plate stand as a piece of decoration. The Coucou Didrie is the didric cuckoo, a small African bird painted here in shimmering greens with a flash of red.
Each platter is made in fine porcelain at Manifattura Ginori, just outside Florence, in the Impero shape, whose gentle outline takes its name from the Empire style. The bird is painted in overglaze and fired in stages so its colors stay vivid, then framed in pure gold applied by hand.
Volière means aviary in French, and the collection began with a set of nineteenth-century bird sketches found in the Ginori 1735 archives. Set among warm florals and gold, the birds are made to be mixed, so a table with several of them feels collected rather than matched. Ginori 1735, founded near Florence in 1735, is one of Europe’s oldest porcelain makers.
