The Ginori 1735 Volière Decorated Rim Dinnerware adds color to the Volière table, with dinner, dessert, and soup plates in soft solid hues traced with gold florals. Kneen & Co offers Muschio, a moss green, and Tortora, a gentle dove grey. In Tortora, the dinner and dessert plates carry a Padda or a Coucou Didrie at the center, while the soup plates in both colors keep things simple. Use the range on its own, or layer it with the white Volière bird pieces.
Each plate is made in fine porcelain at Manifattura Ginori, just outside Florence, in the classic Impero shape. The color is applied in overglaze, and the floral motif is traced in pure gold by hand.
Volière means aviary in French, and the collection began with a set of nineteenth-century bird sketches found in the Ginori 1735 archives. Set among warm florals and gold, the birds are made to be mixed, so a table with several of them feels collected rather than matched. Ginori 1735, founded near Florence in 1735, is one of Europe’s oldest porcelain makers.
