The Saint-Louis Jeu Small Knight in Flannel Grey Crystal presents the Jeu knight’s vivid, naturalistic form in flannel grey — a smoky, shifting tone introduced by Saint-Louis in 2004, achieved through masse coloring. At 3.7 inches tall it is the most restrained and contemporary-feeling of the three individual knight options, and works beautifully as a decorative contrast to the clear version. Handcrafted from the mould technique at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis in Lorraine.

The knight distinguishes itself from every other piece in the Jeu collection. Where the king, queen, bishop, rook, and pawn each take their form from a Saint-Louis decanter stopper — smooth, clean, and contemporary in silhouette — the knight’s aspect is more vivid and naturalistic, its numerous reliefs evoking the ardor associated with the piece that leads the others in battle, the one whose movement is linear until it shifts aside. The knight figures are available individually as decorative objects and as standalone collector’s pieces, handcrafted from the mould technique at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
