Saint-Louis Jeu Chess Knights

The Saint-Louis Jeu Chess Knights are individual knight figures from the Jeu collection, available as standalone decorative and collectible objects in clear crystal (large and small) and flannel grey crystal (small). The knight is the most distinctive piece in the Jeu collection — the only one whose form departs from the decanter stopper shapes that inspire the others, its more vivid and naturalistic aspect recalling the ardor of the piece that leads in battle. The knights are handcrafted from the mould technique at the Cristallerie in Lorraine.

The knight distinguishes itself from every other piece in the Jeu collection. Where the king, queen, bishop, rook, and pawn each take their form from a Saint-Louis decanter stopper — smooth, clean, and contemporary in silhouette — the knight’s aspect is more vivid and naturalistic, its numerous reliefs evoking the ardor associated with the piece that leads the others in battle, the one whose movement is linear until it shifts aside. The knight figures are available individually as decorative objects and as standalone collector’s pieces, handcrafted from the mould technique at the Cristallerie Saint-Louis. Established in 1586, Saint-Louis stands as Europe’s oldest crystal manufacturer, holding the title of Royal Cristallerie since 1781.
